Cookie Policy

This page explains the cookies and similar storage technologies that TimerZen.com (the "site") uses, why they are used, and how you can control or opt out of them. It applies to every page on the timerzen.com domain.
What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that a website can place in your browser. Similar technologies include local storage, session storage, pixels, and device identifiers. They can be set by the site you are visiting (first-party) or by other services whose code the site loads, such as analytics or advertising providers (third-party).
Cookies and storage we use
1. Strictly necessary
The site itself does not require any cookies to display pages or run a countdown. The timer pages use your browser's local storage for a single key, timerMuted, which remembers whether you turned the end-of-timer sound off. Clearing your browser's site data removes it, and the timer will simply default to sound-on next time.
2. Analytics (first-party, Google Analytics 4)
The site loads Google Analytics via the gtag.js script (measurement ID G-TC4GYW5NT2) so we can see anonymous, aggregated usage patterns — which timer durations are most used, which guides get read, whether mobile or desktop is more common. Google Analytics 4 primarily uses first-party cookies such as _ga and _ga_<container-id>.
You can opt out of Google Analytics using Google's official Analytics opt-out browser add-on, or by blocking analytics cookies in your browser settings.
3. Advertising (Google AdSense)
TimerZen participates in the Google AdSense program so that timers and guides can remain free. When ads are served, Google and its advertising partners may set or read cookies (for example __gads, __gpi, and the NID / IDE cookies on google.com and doubleclick.net) to:
- Serve and render ads.
- Measure ad performance and limit how often you see the same ad.
- Detect invalid traffic and fraud.
- Personalise ads based on prior visits to this and other websites, where permitted.
Full details of how Google uses this data are described in Google's "How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services" page and Google's advertising cookie information.
Managing and opting out of ad cookies
You can control ad personalisation without leaving the web:
- Google Ad Settings — turn personalised ads on or off across Google services and partner sites: adssettings.google.com.
- Your Online Choices (EU) — opt out of personalised ads from many participating advertisers: youronlinechoices.eu.
- YourAdChoices (US/Canada) — the Digital Advertising Alliance opt-out page: optout.aboutads.info.
- Browser controls — every modern browser lets you block third-party cookies, clear existing cookies, or use a private/incognito window. See your browser's help pages for steps.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, or another region that requires consent for non-essential cookies, Google's consent tools will ask for your choice before personalised advertising cookies are set. You can change that choice at any time using the Google Ad Settings link above.
Do Not Track
TimerZen does not currently respond to browser "Do Not Track" signals because there is no agreed industry standard. The opt-out options above give you working alternatives.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated to reflect changes in how the site uses cookies, or changes in relevant law. The review date at the top of the page will be updated whenever changes are made.
